As part of my digestive health series, here is the second yoga pose to release bloating and gas. If you missesd the first blog, click on Malasana – Yoga Exercise to Encourage Good Digestive Health. This pose is best done lying on your back on a soft mat.

#2 Pawanmuktasana, also known as the “Wind Relieving Pose,” is great for releasing abdominal gas.

Benefits: Strengthens the back and abdominal muscles, tones leg and arm muscles, massages the intestines and other organs in the abdomen region, improves digestion and helps release gas, enhances blood circulation in the hip joints, and eases lower back tension.

Directions: Breathe in as you lie on your back with your feet together and arms beside your body. Exhale; bring your right knee towards your chest and press the thigh on your abdomen. Inhale. Exhale; lift your head and chest off the floor, touching your chin to your right knee. Hold for 5-10 breaths. Exhale; lower your head, chest and leg to the ground, and relax. Repeat this pose with the left leg, and again with both legs together.

Contraindications: Avoid this pose if you are currently experiencing high blood pressure or heart problems, a hernia, a slip disc, neck and back problems, a testicle disorder, and after the second trimester of pregnancy.
