One of my clients mentioned to me that every time the season changes, it takes time for her body to adjust to the temperature and energy vibrations (warm to cool to cold.) She asked me what she could do to prepare her body for the fall and winter.

According to Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) beliefs, the energy frequency (known as ā€œqiā€) may not be in harmony with the seasonā€™s frequency. In TCM, everyoneā€™s energy is comprised of various qi ā€“ hot, cold, damp, and dry. If any of these energies become excessive or deficient you can experience physical and emotional imbalances.

Your qi is constantly adjusting itself to match earthā€™s frequency. Frequency can fluctuate and moves quicker in the warmer weather and slower in the cold. Some people are very or overly sensitive to the seasonal changes. These adjustments can have a negative impact on the body, can cause illness and can make one feel unbalanced.

You may be asking how? For example there are many people affected by the energy of a full moon. For thousands of years people have believed that the moon has all kind of impacts on us. Some have said that its affects can increase crime rates, dog attacks, and cause people to do crazy things. We sometimes call these people lunatics. The term ā€œlunaticā€ comes from ā€œof the moonā€ or being ā€œmoonstruck.ā€ It was a very popular term in the late 1800ā€™s and modern people still use the label ā€œlunaticā€ when we see someone acting out of the norm.

When the weather or the seasons change, the energy frequency of our body may not be in harmony with the frequency of the weather or season. With the change of seasons we see:

ā€¢ More liver problems in the spring;
ā€¢ More heart problems in the summer;
ā€¢ More lung problems in the fall;
ā€¢ More kidney problems in the winter.

How to bring your body to balance –

Movement – To move qi, many people have been practicing the ancient art of Chineseā€™s Qigong. Qigong is an integration of physical postures, movement, exercise, breathing techniques, martial arts training and focused skills. Some Qigong practices increase Qi; others circulate it or use it to cleanse and heal the body. Qigong can adjust your energy to the changes of the weather before a blockage occurs.

Environment ā€“ The energy in your home and work environment is very important to your physical health. To have a positive energy flow in your environment, try arranging your furniture in a harmonious and uncluttered way known as Feng Shui. Feng Shui is a Chinese philosophical system of harmonizing environment for peaceful living. It is believed by Feng Shui practitioners that each object in your home has its own magnetic field and energy frequency that is positive or negative and can influence our bodyā€™s energy.

Diet ā€“ If you have ā€œhotā€ problems like aggression, impatience, and irritability ā€“ try to eating sour foods, like citrus fruits, vinegar, and sauerkraut. Eliminate greasy and spicy food from your diet.

If you have ā€œdampā€ and ā€œhotā€ problems like high blood pressure, acne and infections, try eating anti-inflammatory, antioxidant-rich bitter foods like arugula, dandelion greens, kale, and quinoa.
If you feel ā€œcoldā€ and ā€œdryā€ at the same time, like cold hands and feet, dry skin and hair, try eating whole grains, which can be warming and calming.
If you feel ā€œcoldā€ and ā€œdampā€ at the same time, like weight issues, congestion, or bloating, try pungent foods like onion, garlic, cinnamon, cabbage, celery, kale, and broccoli rabe to improve the circulation and respiratory systems.

Meditate ā€“ Find quiet and connect with the energy within.

Avoid injuries ā€“ All injuries (cuts, broken bones, torn muscles or ligaments) interrupt energy flow.

Medications ā€“ Medication can have an effect on energy flow and make you feel different.

Holistic care – Complimentary or alternative therapies like reflexology, reiki, energy medicine, and acupuncture can help to unblock the qi and re-establish the energy so that it will flow with balance, helping you adjust to the seasonal changes.
