Revitalizing Your Space for Spring
Thursday, March 19, 7-8pm
With Cindy Manning, Feng Shui Enthusiast
Feng- Shui literally means Wind- Water in Chinese. The concept of Feng Shui is that we need to balance the energy flow of our environment with our own. Feng Shui is a holistic view of the world. We are all part of our environment. We all have the same energy flow that runs through us as the trees , the crickets, the moss and the ocean etc. This energy flow or life giving essence is known in Chinese as Chi. Feng Shui aims to balance the Chi around us so that we may live in harmony with our environment. Since Wind and Water (Feng and Shui) are vital energy to our survival, it is very fitting that this practice is named with these two forms of Chi.
Feng Shui divides the world into five elements. These elements are wood, fire, earth, metal and water. Let’s look at each one individually. Wood represents growth, birth, strength, flexibility and intuition. Fire represents leadership skills, enthusiasm and passion. Earth helps to ground us and gives stability and balance. Metal is for focus, organization and logic. Water encompasses spirituality and emotion to bring inspiration and wisdom. Bringing these elements together in the right way will bring harmonious energy to your space.
One of the main tools in Feng Shui is The Ba Gua Grid or Map. This is a wonderful tool to use to balance energy flow through your home. Each area of your home represents an area of your life: Career, Travel, Creativity, Relationships, Fame, Wealth, Family, Knowledge and Health. For example, once we locate the Wealth area, we know that the element for wealth is wood. That will help to determine, how to set up and decorate this area. The Ba Gua Map tells us the location and the corresponding element.
Feng Shui is used to bring balance and harmony to our lives. It dates back over 3,000 years and has been used by emperors and the public alike. The idea that we are all part of the same life force, or Chi, as everything on our planet is indeed a very holistic view. Living with the earth instead of trying to dominate it by practising the giving and receiving of Chi will help with our health and well being. This is not a New Age concept but an old one that just makes sense.
