What is Alternative Healing?

What is Alternative Healing? What is Alternative Healing?

Alternative healing is taking a holistic approach when seeking treatment for imbalances and choosing to live a more balanced and mindful lifestyle.

What distinguishes alternative medicine from conventional medicine is that it focuses on the root of the problem as opposed to only the physical health component.

Experiencing physical discomfort is usually the driving reason as to why people pursue alternative healing in the first place.  In most cases, people seek out alternative healing when traditional medicine no longer works or has never worked, or they want to heal in a natural way.

Easy Ways to Practice Mindfulness Everyday

Easy Ways to Practice Mindfulness EverydayEasy Ways to Practice Mindfulness Everyday

Have you ever wondered what it means to live in the present? Aren’t we all here, now, in the present?

Technically, yes, but for so many of us, we are only 10 percent here.

We are really living in our minds. We exist from day-to-day in a dream-like state where we’re not really connected to the world around us, nor centered in our own body or being.

Instead, we’re preoccupied with memories of the past, churning thoughts and worries about the future, and judgments and reactions to the few things we do see.

Healing Place Celebrates 9th Anniversary!

Healing Place Celebrates 9th Anniversary!Healing Place Celebrates 9th Anniversary!
Hello everyone! I am honored to share with you that today marks the 9th anniversary of the day I opened Healing Place. When we first opened our doors, all we had was a vision based on a philosophy. I hoped to create a clinic, not only where I could practice reflexology to improve the conditions of those suffering chronic ailments, but also to teach the philosophy of taking responsibility for out well-being. I had noticed that a reliance on medication was becoming prevalent in our society.
People had began to assume the mindset that they could not live a healthy lifestyle without the assistance of expensive and sometimes harmful prescription drugs. They had given up; fallen prey to the doubt that a life of health was out of their reach in this day and age. I hoped to show them that by doing simple things everyday like eating healthy, exercising and meditating that they would feel better and that their bodies, minds, and spirits would resume a state of self-healing.

How To Turn Boring Moments Into Life-Altering Mindfulness Exercises

I recently watched Oprah interview author Michael Pollan. During the interview, Pollan explained one of his life rules: “When chopping onions, just chop onions.” It’s kind of funny, but also highly profound: Pollan makes a conscious effort to be present and appreciative of what he’s doing, even in the most mundane situations. How wonderful, right?

This got me thinking about how many opportunities there are in our everyday lives to be mindful and actually get a lot out of the task at hand. Too often, we’re so busy rushing around or looking at our Smartphones that we buzz through the day in a zone of haziness.

But it doesn’t have to be that way. There are tiny opportunities throughout your day to be more mindful, to stop multitasking and to boost productivity. Here are four of my favorites:

Harvard Neuroscientist – Meditation not only Reduces Stress, Here’s How it Changes Your Brain

Harvard Neuroscientist – Meditation not only Reduces Stress, Here’s How it Changes Your BrainHarvard Neuroscientist – Meditation not only Reduces Stress, Here’s How it Changes Your Brain

Sara Lazar, a neuroscientist at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School, was one of the first scientists to take the anecdotal claims about the benefits of meditation and mindfulness and test them in brain scans. What she found surprised her — that meditating can literally change your brain. She explains:

Q: Why did you start looking at meditation and mindfulness and the brain?

Lazar: A friend and I were training for the Boston marathon. I had some running injuries, so I saw a physical therapist who told me to stop running and just stretch. So I started practicing yoga as a form of physical therapy. I started realizing that it was very powerful, that it had some real benefits, so I just got interested in how it worked.
