Life’s Reflections… As part of everyone’s journey, we all experience many milestones. We have the tendency to look back at our life and reflect what was achieved and what life lessons we still need to learn.

For some, life’s lessons are easily achieved, while for many, it takes a series of many difficult endeavors. What makes our life journey easy to navigate? Support from family and friends and welcoming new experiences with an open mind are indispensable.

Why do many people resist learning their life lessons? Most people enjoy the comfort of living within their “comfort zone” and to leave their comfort zone is just too darn “scary”. What I have learned on my journey is that lessons can be either easy or difficult to learn depending on our perspective.

If we are willing to meet new challenges half way, we usually can learn life’s lessons with very little resistance. If we resist, the universe will most likely re-play the same lesson plan over and over again, each time with different players and surroundings, until we learn or we “get it.”

Have you have ever seen the movie “Ground Hog Day”? The clock stops for Bill Murray, who plays a frustrated weatherman who experiences the same day, day after day, until he learns how to treasure each day’s lessons. Then the clock moves forward again. He is forever grateful for learning his life’s lessons.

Can you take time to recognize your achievements, whether big or small? Be specific and write everything down. Please take time to recognize your achievements.

If there is something that you still need to learn? Recognize that too. What was it that got in your way? Be honest if it was you and acknowledge it. We do all kinds of things to sabotage ourselves when we are called upon to make a change in our lives. You may think, “Why do I keep attracting the same kind of man or woman?” or “Why am I stuck in the same kind of job?”.

Who contributed to your success(es)? Was it family, friends, mentors, or perhaps you? Tell those people how grateful you are that they have helped you to grow, or give yourself a pat on the back.

What did you learn from the lessons? There are no “mistakes” in life. Every experience is a life lesson so that we may learn and grow.

Where did you not take responsibility? Growing is not easy, especially if your beliefs are being tested or reassessed. Are you open to changes? Can you see the value in life lessons even if they are painful?

What can you let go and what can’t you? By allowing yourself to let go of things that are bothering you, you will allow yourself to grow. Think of a plant that has dead leaves hanging from it. By removing the dead and brown leaves you are allowing the full potential of that plant to grow, right? What you can’t let go, own it and be okay with that decision. No one ever said that letting go is easy.

What was missing for me? How would you like to be present in your life? All this is part of your life journey. Enjoy the journey. It’s never as long as you think it is.
