There are times when we get frustrated and angry, and we want to scream to let out the negative emotions! No one is exempt from frustrations or anger! What if  screaming isn’t an option? There are alternative ways of handling negative feelings of frustration.

What is Frustration?

Frustration comes from when we are annoyed or upset when a plan backfires, or something we want doesn’t happen — or having an intense feeling of pressure.

None of these are good feelings. Your body then proceeds to alarm how these emotions are affecting you.  The sensation can begin in the throat and then working its way down into the chest and belly. The feeling is undeniable as the body starts to tightening up and breathing increases.

Frustrations can be harmful to your health! Frustration, anger, sadness, anxiety are psychological responses to stress. People under pressure can feel frustrated, depressed, or anxious.

Why Screaming Can Be Healthy!

Screaming can be a healthy activity to release energy, but not so healthy if the negative energy becomes aggressive, and dumped on a child, spouse, or co-worker, and suddenly control is lost.

Healthy Alternative to Replace Screaming

  • Cognitive behavior training – go over in your mind often what how to offset frustration and anger
  • Realize when your emotions begin to take over
  • Stop and give yourself a time out
  • Focus on your breathing to release built-up hostile energy
  • Create a diversion to keep you from getting angry.
  • Limit exposure of what sets you off
