No matter what you eat, do you feel a burning session in your diaphragm or throat? Can you taste the acid? Is the burning sensation won’t allow you to sleep?
Acid reflux, also known as gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), is a common condition that occurs when stomach acid flows back into the esophagus. Approximately 20% of the adult population in the United States experiences acid reflux symptoms regularly.
Heartburn, despite the name, has nothing to do with the heart. It is a digestive problem that occurs when stomach acid comes into contact with the lining of the esophagus. The stomach’s acid content passes back into the food pipe, the gullet, or the esophagus. This irritation is known as acid reflux.
Most people have experienced stomach acid reflux, either heartburn or acid regurgitation, at some point in their lives. Heartburn is annoying and may have a detrimental effect on a person’s well-being. Sometimes, heartburn tends to develop into a mucous membrane inflammation in the food pipe, known as esophagitis.
In the worst cases, esophagitis can become complicated with ulcers, which, in rare cases, may bleed or cause chronic anemia. Occasionally, scars from reflux esophagitis cause a tightening or narrowing (stricture) in the food pipe, making swallowing difficult. If this should occur, it is a severe condition that requires immediate attention.
What Causes Acid Reflux?
When the lower esophageal sphincter valve keeps stomach acid in the stomach weakened or relaxed, it can cause gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD).
Foods that can weaken or relax the LES include:Ā
- Certain foods (chocolate, fried and fatty foods, peppermint, coffee, alcohol, and sugars).Ā
- Eating large meals or eating before bedtime.
- Pressure on the stomach, including frequent bending, tight clothes, lifting, and obesity.
How Often Do You Get Acid Reflux?
- Once a month is considered mild, and about 20% of all adults experience monthly symptoms.
- Weekly symptoms of heartburn are considered moderate.
- When heartburn occurs daily, it is severe.
Acid Reflux Remedies
- You can manage uncomfortable episodes by changing your diet from acidic to alkaline.
- Evaluating over-the-counter medications
- Losing weight can decrease acid
Only 5-15% of severe acid reflux sufferers will find partial or temporary relief with these remedies.
Manage Acid Reflux with ReflexologyĀ
A combined ear, hand, and foot reflexology therapy help find relief from heartburn relatively quickly. Pain Relief can be achieved within 3-4 reflexology sessions with a Certified Reflexologist, followed by a monthly maintenance reflexology program.
Healing Power of ReflexologyĀ
Reflexology is a science and an artāReflex points on the feet, hands, and ears represent the body in miniature. The nerve pathways in each foot create an electrochemical flow that communicates with the central nervous system to encourage the body to relax and release toxins. The principle of Reflexology is that all reflex points, meridian pathways, and chakra regions are connected to specific organs, glands, and body functions. Reflexology promotes the elimination of stress and reinforces the body’s ability to stay healthy and vital. This preventative modality encourages wellness through relaxation and supports all body functions.
Manage Acid Reflux with Foot Reflexology
Reflexology is an alternative therapy that involves applying pressure to specific points on the feet, hands, or ears to promote relaxation and improve overall health and well-being. Foot reflexology can help improve digestive function in the following ways:
- Stimulation of reflex points: Reflexology involves applying pressure to specific reflex points on the feet, hands, or ears, which correspond to different organs and systems in the body. Focusing on the digestive reflex points helps to improve digestion.Ā
- Relaxation: Reflexology promotes relaxation, reducing stress and tension in the body. Chronic stress can impair digestion by activating the “fight or flight” response, diverting blood flow from the digestive system and slowing down digestive enzyme production.
- Improves circulation: Reflexology improves circulation by increasing blood flow to the digestive organs by enhancing the delivery of oxygen and nutrients to promote healthy digestion.
