How Your Amazing Brain and Nervous System Affect Your Energy Flow

The human brain is composed of approximately 86 billion nerve cells known as neurons. Neurons are our body’s information messengers. Without neurons, we couldn’t think, feel, or move. Neurons use electrical impulses and chemical signals to transmit information between the brain and the nervous system. Neurons communicate with other neurons, synapse to synapse, by chemical transmitters known as neurotransmitters (internal automatic body functions); or electrical signals (external decision or choices.)

Three Types of Nervous System Neurons

  • Sensory neurons relay external stimuli to the brain – everything you see, hear, and feel is communicated by sensory neurons.
  • Motor neurons connect to the muscles, glands and organs, directly controlling all muscle movements.
  • Interneurons connect connect spinal motor and sensory neurons

We are born with 2,500 synapses per neuron. As children, we are always exploring our surroundings and challenging ourselves. From infancy to age 3, we grow so quickly, physically and mentally that synapses grow from 2,500 to 15,000 per neuron. Unfortunately, we can lose up to 50% of our synapses as adults when we stop challenging ourselves and start falling into the same repetitive routines.

What Does Energy Stagnation do to your Energy Flow?

Instead of being proactive, most people live a structured and regimented life with restlessness, fear, and doubt. These feelings feel genuine when you are in a survival mode. We wonder why and how to overcome these emotions. Now is the time to stop to reevaluate where you are and how to proceed.

Change is Required to Expand Your Energy.

We have been reactive for so long; living in your head is not where you want to be. Pragmatic as you may be, your heart has begun to call you. You know it is time for a change. A change will also grow your synapses by replacing stagnant energy with passion and desire.
Here are daily practices that you can do every day to build your spirit while getting healthy:

  • Ask yourself, “What am I grateful for today?”
  • Manage your stress and set aside time every day for something that brings you joy
  • Prioritize a work and life balance
  • Stimulate your brain with new knowledge
  • Move your body
  • Grow your spirit by doing one thing that is different today, no matter how big
