Most people associate Tinnitus with ringing or buzzing in the ears. The cause of Tinnitus can come from prolonged exposure to excessive loud noise, such as concerts, construction sites, or headphone use. However, new theories suggest that there might be alternative causes for this unrelenting condition.Ā One such reason is that Tinnitus could be related to crystals lodging in the ear canal. There are many ways to minimize ringing of the ears, such as Reflexology. Reflexology can diminish or eliminate tinnitus discomforts. Look at how Reflexology can help you to relieve body pain.Ā

Recent discussions within the medical community have raised the possibility that Tinnitus may not solely result from noise-induced damage. Some researchers are investigating the role of the tiny ear Otoconia crystals made of calcium carbonate, can become dislodged from the inner ear, causing Tinnitus.

What are Otoconia Crystals?

Otoconia crystals help to detect movement and help us maintain balance. When we move, the crystals move while stimulating the inner ear’s small, hair-like structures to communicate with the brain to help us maintain balance. However, it’s hypothesized that these crystals could dislodge and find their way into the ear canal and stick to the ear canal walls, causing communication disruption with the brain.Ā

Potential Ear Problems:Ā The crystal theory speculates that when otoconia detach within the inner ear, they might interfere with the delicate mechanisms responsible for transmitting sound signals. This disruption could lead to phantom sounds, such as the ringing or buzzing commonly associated with Tinnitus. Factors that might contribute to otoconia dislodgement include sudden head movements, changes in ear pressure, or even age-related degeneration.

Treatment and Management:Ā Traditional approaches focus solely on noise reduction needs reevaluating and looking for alternative strategies to prevent crystal dislodgement.Ā

Ear Canal Exercises to Move Ear Crystals

Even though the home Epley maneuver is a type of exercise to ease the dizziness of Vertigo, it can help to reposition otoconia ear crystals.

Epley maneuver and Brandt-Daroff Exercises are safe to do.

Having someone at home while you go through the movements may be helpful. People with health conditions that limit their ability to move may not be able to do the home Epley maneuver safely. It may take several times for the procedure to work. Once symptoms disappear, there is no reason to continue the exercise. Ask your healthcare provider if the home Epley maneuver is safe for you. You can also find online Youtube videos on how to do this exercise.Ā

Steps to Move Ear CrystalĀ

While you can’t directly “reset” these crystals through exercise, you can perform specific maneuvers that can help reposition them within the inner ear and alleviate symptoms. The two most common exercises used to address Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV) are the Epley maneuver and the Brandt-Daroff exercises:Ā Ā

Epley Maneuver: This maneuver can move the displaced crystals out of the ear canal.Ā

    • Sit upright on a bed with your legs extended.
    • Turn your head 45 degrees toward the affected ear.
    • Quickly lie down on your back, turning your head at a 45-degree angle. Your head should be slightly off the edge of the bed.
    • Keep your head in this position for 30 seconds, then turn your head 90 degrees to the opposite side (keeping it at a 45-degree angle) for another 30 seconds.
    • In the last step, turn your body and head another 90 degrees in the same direction so that you are looking at the floor. Stay in this position for about 30 seconds.
    • Slowly sit up while keeping your head tilted to the side.

  1. Brandt-Daroff Exercise: This exercise can help retrain your body to avoid triggering dizziness and reduce the sensation.

Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā To perform Brandt-Daroff exercises:

    • Sit on the edge of your bed.
    • Turn your head 45 degrees to one side.
    • Quickly lie down on your side with your head in the same position. Stay in this position for about 30 seconds.
    • Sit up, return to the starting position, and repeat on the other side.

Ear Reflexology Can Ease Tinnitus Pain

Ear reflexology may be helpful for the relief of symptoms in conditions such as headaches, migraines, sinus problems, tinnitus, neck, back, shoulder tension, allergies, inflammation, pain relief, stress, anxiety, insomnia, plus much more. Specific points on the ears are stimulated to encourage pain relief while support well being.Ā

What is Ear Reflexology?

Ear reflexology is based on traditional Chinese medicine principles. The body has hundreds of energy channels called meridians that can be stimulated through pressure points on the outside and directly inside the ears (but not in the ear canal) to improve health and well-being. Ear reflexology is considered a microcosm of the body, with thousands of points on the ear that correspond to different body functions.Ā
