Hang In There!
This week I had the pleasure of talking to Shaman Sue Angelo about how to manage our energy during the COVID-19 pandemic. What we once we as a schedule is no more. We no longer go to work, but work from home. Instead of going to school, our children are attending school in front of their computers. We all are experiencing massive disruptions in our daily routines.
Our regular routine comprises of getting up in the morning to get ready for work and get the kids ready for school. Now that we no longer working from outside of our homes, we are living and working from home 24-7. Living and working from home has become just as big of a challenge as not contracting the Coronavirus.
Quarantine Tests Your Self Care
As much as I love my family, I am working harder to juggle my work and personal schedule in the same space. Sometimes I think it would be easier to live with roommates than to live with a spouse and children, 24-7.
I know having a home and family is a privilege! But seeing the same people every minute of every hour and every day can tax nerves very quickly. This is when patience becomes vital for survival.
I recite in my head the vows I took on my wedding day, for “better or worse.” There is no denying that this could be the worse of times. Living in tight quarantine quarters tests my ability to see if I can live with the same people for 24-7.
Fit in Self Care Daily
This is where grace and humor come in. Living together in this manner forces me to look at my situation differently. We learn there is a lot of giving and taking that has to take place to be able to live peacefully and harmoniously. Instead of dwelling on worry and fears, why not replace these negative emotions with kindness and humor instead? We know that this will end.
I also learn by being patient, kind, and respectful; this will make a difficult time to go quicker, and everyone will be more comfortable. I’m not saying this is easy to do, but there are no other options than to wait this out.
This period will strengthen who we are, and we must help each other during this time of need.
Laugh and stay safe.
