What is Reflexology?
Ancient healing reflexology is a practice used for centuries in various cultures worldwide. The specific origins of reflexology have roots in ancient civilizations such as Egypt, China, and India.
In ancient healing reflexology, the belief is that the body is connected through energy pathways, and specific points on the feet, hands, and ears correspond to various organs, systems, and body parts. Applying pressure to these reflex points promotes healing and restoring body balance.
Some Ancient Healing Reflexology Methods
- Egyptian Reflexology: Egyptian hieroglyphics dating back to 2500 BCE depict foot massage images, suggesting reflexology was practiced in ancient Egypt. The Egyptians believed that the feet were a microcosm of the entire body, and by manipulating specific points on the feet, they could influence health and well-being.
- Chinese Reflexology: Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) also incorporates the principles of reflexology. In TCM, the feet contain numerous acupressure points, and stimulating these points through reflexology techniques is believed to promote the flow of Qi (life energy) and restore balance in the body.
- Ayurvedic Padabhyanga: In Ayurveda, the ancient Indian system of medicine, padabhyanga refers to massaging the feet and applying pressure to specific reflex points to improve circulation, stimulate vital organs, and harmonize energy flow in the body.
These ancient healing reflexology practices have been passed down through generations and continue to be practiced today. Modern reflexology has evolved with scientific understanding and incorporates elements from these traditional practices, along with additional research and developments in the field.
Reflexology is for Everyone!
It’s important to note that while reflexology has been used for centuries and is regarded as a holistic therapy, its effectiveness and benefits vary for each individual. For more information about reflexology, consult a trained and certified reflexologist or healthcare professional before seeking alternative treatment.
Facial Reflexology For Migraine Pain Relief
is an alternative medicine practice that involves applying pressure to specific points on the hands, feet, ears, head, or face that correspond to different organs and systems in the body. Face reflexology, or facial reflexology or reflex zone therapy, is a complementary therapy based on traditional reflexology principles applied to the entire face, including the jawline. Face reflexology stimulates the brain by stimulating reflex points and zones on the scalp and face. It is a gentle and non-invasive technique achieved using the fingertips for pressure-point massage on the entire face.
Looking at the face reflexology map divides the face into different zones or regions, each corresponding to a particular organ or system. Note where are the reflex points. For example, the gallbladder, bladder, liver, and stomach reflex points are on the forehead.
Give Yourself a Migraine Pain Relief with Facial Reflexology
Lightly lotion your entire face. With one or two fingers, starting at the forehead, gently massage in small circles from the left of the temple to the right temple. Then bring your finger(s) back to the left temple, but bring your fingers down a quarter inch and slowly work across the face again. Continue gently massaging across the face until you work down to the chin and jawline. Repeat for three light massages from the forehead to the jawline; as you are massaging, notice where there are tender spots and continue to massage that area a little longer.
To work the spine reflex point – place your finger in the middle of your forehead and gently press down your nose tip. Repeat all steps three times.
